“Balkanska” is the first play by Dejan Dukovski that explores class division — a force that drives people to the most brutal actions in their desire to gain just a little more. The play is a dark comedy about antisocial behavior born out of social inequality and injustice. The loss of status can easily become a reason for violence, brutality, and cruelty. When you’re at the bottom, this becomes painfully clear. When you’re at the bottom and have turned into a cold-blooded killer, you justify your “bloody” actions through the prism of your circumstances and position. When you’re at the bottom, all of this feels completely normal — and part of the natural order of things.
